Norastouches.blogspot.com

This other blog (see link below) was created to display my decorative items for sale. However as time passes by, the time to paint for sale just eluded me

No special reason as to why I still have this blog... maybe it's just to remind me..... that's where and how I started to be where I am now :)

All items shown are hand-painted personally by yours truly... but now I focus on commissioned jobs. So, I do take orders... but the queue is long... sorry :( .... but if you are willing to wait in the queue... I'm more than obliged to paint for you..... It would be an honour!!!!

The customer is always right ....

There is a saying that the customer is always right :) It is something we service providers have to stand by all the time ... regardless the consequences ...

I discovered today that my paintings were not up to expectations ... I misunderstood the specifications and did it my way as I usually do unless specifically instructed. I happily announced in my last 2 posts that the lady was happy with my work ... when unfortunately she was not. I understand the feelings of dissatisfaction when what we want is not what we get ... so here I have to remind myself to make sure the customer gets what he/she wants.... but again... oh well... *sigh* ... there is another saying... one man's meat is another man's poison... you just can't please them all...

So till my next post... have a great day.... ;)

Update ....

Last post was 5 July... today is 26 July... hmm 3 weeks have passed by since the last post. So what's up eyh? Too many... don't think I can recall anything much tho (told you not to trust my memory didn't I ??? muhahahaha )

Anyway... 1st week I guess was uneventful ... did my usual thing... painting, surfing the internet, painting again.... but most of all I guess I was glued to facebook!!! I tell you.... facebook is so addictive... at every possible moment that I could spare to procrastinate ... and even more than I should or could!!!... I'd be there in front of this little screen squinting away at words and pics ... what pleasure you ask??? Hmmmm....I also don't know ... muahahaha.... but I'm there religiously after my dawn prayers onwards....till just before I call it a day... *sigh* So... though I managed to do some paintings, but unfortunately effort was like almost nil!!! (as compared to the number of hours I stare on the screen!!!! bad!bad!bad!!! errr... do I regret??? hmmm ????

The 2nd week however was very hectic... I had to go down south to JB. My eldest girl needed 2 ops... one for her liver cyst... the other what was at first thought to be endometriosis, turned out to be just a congestion of cells and blood, lining the walls of her ovary externally. Thank God for that... but it still had to be removed. They did laproscopy on her... and now she has 7 holey scars to show off around her abdominal area ( 3 was from last year's op) . Anyway... I was based in the hospital with her for 4 days ... and though wifi was available... but facebook was blocked!!! Sad isn't it... 4 days no FB!!!! Pathetic!!!! haha ... so what did I do to while away the time??? I painted lah!!!! Brought some items and painting gear... and managed to complete some hehe... *pat*pat*

*Sigh* came back home last Sunday to a messy house... and it has remained as such since then hahaha. Don't have the strength to go round cleaning.... so from now and till "then" .... whenever "then" is .... I shall just close an eye or maybe both... to whatever that's-not-supposed-to-be-there-but-is -there... muahahahaha ... aaahhhhh life is bliss ;)

And finally yesterday... we had our 5th workshop with Laman Impiana... will tell you more about that later. I also have a few more paintings to show off ( nothing out of the ordinary though... my usual roses and hydrangeas) ... but for now that's it... need to get ready for my lunch out with my Assunta mates hehehe... taa... have a great day ya....

I love u all... my hartamas babies....

I've been lazy lately...(errr..come to think of it...when have I ever not been lazy huh???? muahahaha)... not that I'd not done any painting...I have but nothing's completed... touch and go here and there *sigh* no great accomplishment as yet...

It's difficult to really push and motivate myself to go further... but for now I hope it's just a temporary setback.... I have friends' and customers' orders to complete!!!! Hmmm... scary thought in this current condition.... *sigh*... hehe I guess, one can blame it on the hormones... again!!! muahahaha.... yup!yup!yup! Anyway... I'm actually taking a breather now... been varnishing all the "completed but unvarnished" projects since yesterday....

So what have I been doing??? Well... I've been surfing the net looking for ideas and inspirations... but most of the time... I was on Facebook reminiscing the past. I decided I'd go student -hunting...and see how many of these kids still remember me and would be willing to have me ... their school marm... in their friend list. I'm happy to say... I've so far been accepted by 31 students who are now my friends in Facebook....gorgeous thing, this Facebook thingy. Oh btw... if you are on FB...please do add me in ya... I'd love to be of acquaintance...

SM Sri Hartamas was my last post... and a most memorable one. It was a new school and I joined them in its second year. There were only 3 Form 2 and 4 Form 1 classes then. ..with maybe 300 in population, including the teachers!..way back in 1994 (I think hehehe...don't trust my memory!!!) Though I majored in biology, there were no upper forms yet...so I ended teaching BM, KH, Art and Sc to the lower forms. The F1 kids grew with me... as I got to teach almost everyone of them!!!!

Thus... for the past 2 weeks, as I started with Fino and Indah (who were already with me in FB earlier on) ... I went 'stalking' hahaha.... and found the rest... hehehe still stalking looking for more. It was actually a pleasant feeling. I remembered them as young kids... knew them when they were 12 or 13... but as I read their profiles... I see that they have all bloomed and matured to be beautiful responsible adults!!!.... yes... mind you...even the ones that got constantly hauled to the office due to some mischief or the other. ... hahaha.

I am so proud to see u guys... thank you for the beautiful memories. A teacher's life has been rewarded when the kids she helped nurture are now successful adults..... and hey.... some of them have made me a grandmother many times over!!!! muahahaaha.... I love u guys...

Yup! ...that's it for now... I'm going back to my studio... to try paint some more... good day y'all....

Always just be yourself... grandma said...

Today...is not a good day. Spent all of daylight hours from 11am - 7.00pm painting a style not my own. I have a free spirit...my painting style is free and loose with a mingling of colours here, there and everywhere. Unfortunately today...I was requested to paint a very controlled style...controlled design with controlled colours and controlled size and shape....*sigh* and double *sigh**sigh*...so not me. Even my daughter (who patiently accompanied me ...bless my darling) ... could see the difference in style and commented that it's so not me!!! Oh well... the customer is always right...and I should be thankful that I still got paid for it inspite of everything... but it was not with a good feeling.... first time completing a task without the sense of satisfaction :(

From then on it continued

So to continue the story...

From the first brush strokes...from the agony and frustration of wondering why my strokes don't look like how they are supposed to be... up to now....I do believe I have evolved and bloomed and is actually very proud of my work. I now teach from the comfort of my home from a little corner of my dry kitchen to anybody who is willing to learn... may it be just for fun or otherwise. It is a forbidden area for the rest of my family. Don't anybody dare touch my 'organised' clutter!! haha You know what I mean.... hands off my organised mess!!! hahaha

Anyway... I was encouraged to sell my work and though I didn't have much faith in myself then, I took the challenge my friends gave me..."Nora, sell your pieces la!!" I'm glad I took the challenge. I set up stall at Mont Kiara Craft Market on Sundays for a whole year in 2000 and from there I met and made new friends. Needless to say I managed to create a network of friends and clients, many of whom have become firm friends for life. Love you all.... your presence complete me.

It all began one fine day

I was a school maarm, teaching Biology for 18 years before I decided to call it quits. A long story there but to cut it short... with so much free time on my hands, I started to pamper myself with doing nothing! Hey! I am now after all a lady of leisure...don't need to get up early to beat the jam just to be in school before the bell rings! But that didn't last long. I've been kept busy doing God-knows-what all these while that I felt I was going bonkers with doing NOTHING!! Nope... I don't think I can ever be a lady of leisure in the true sense haha.

I've always loved crafts...any kind... and I dare say I'm well adept at most handcrafts... you name it... I may have tried it. Cross-stitch, silk and ribbon embroidery, patchwork and quilting, applique, floral arrangement, mosaics, paper-clay modelling, smocking, designed and sewn children's clothes to name a few. I'd even done all the interior finishings for my own home. However, nothing gave me as much pleasure as decorative painting did since the day I tried my hand at it.

I'm a scientist, trained to be observant and accurate. I never knew I'd the flair for art but believe you me once the bug gets you there's no stopping to all this. I'm still learning and searching for new techniques. To this... Sandie... thank you....and to you my friend... as you read this, it simply means that you are now a part of my world. Welcome to my world of colours...
